New year, old you.

As the year is coming to an end, a lot of people are already compiling a list of resolutions that they won't follow through, personal goals they won't achieve. Have you wondered why it's so difficult to keep to these resolution and goals you have set for yourself?

Everybody has plans to achieve what they feel is best for them, be their best self and make better life choices but at the end of the day, some fall short, make excuses, procrastinate, sabotage the process ,then give up to set yet another resolution the following year, having the hopes that they would stick to plan. But yet again, no change. New year, same you.

The truth is, it's not easy to keep to resolutions especially when self motivation is lacking. Being accountable for your actions when its only you who can check them is quite difficult. it's so easy to forgo them when there are many distractions to throw you off course, a harsh economy, social media etc You need determination, will power and to recognize the reward or incentive you get when you actually follow through with your resolution.

You need to ask your self, why do I need to resolve this aspect of my life? or achieve this goal and what do I gain? That self conscious processing of pointing out your needs help you to understand the reason for your resolution and why it's important for you to achieve them. The real test of your self motivation is your ability to set and adhere strictly to internally chosen incentives, which in this case is that resolution that keeps lingering every year unresolved. For example you have decided to cut down on your soda intake and consume more water, your ability to follow through and keep to just that demonstrates true self reliance.

Today, find that internal motivation, reward for setting these resolutions, the need to be better and stick to it. The more you can set and adhere to internal incentives, and be less dependent on external incentives set by other people, social constructs or Mother Nature to keep you motivated, the better off you will be at achieving your resolutions. Secondly, Set small achievable goals and follow through. Starting small is the trick.

Each day is the best opportunity to start anew, change your game, chase that dream, achieve your goals, why wait till it's another year when you can start now? find that courage and just do it.
