"Silent Spectator: A Tale of Saturday's Unexpected Altercation"

It was Friday, I was trying to take a nap after returning from a long stressful day. As I was done eating the rice and stew I prepared the night before, I decided to take a nap when I heard the loud noisy discussion and laughter coming from my neighbor's room.

Those boys living in that room were always noisy; that's what happens when four or more boys live together in a self-contained room. They always talk, from football to women to other frivolities, All I needed to do was just listen quietly and I'll get the full content of whatever it was they were discussing from the comfort of my room. I hissed out loud and closed my eyes to get some rest. Living alone had its perks but these boys were always disrupting the peaceful solitude of my room with their noise.

The next day Saturday was when the drama happened. After the boys in the compound had played their soccer (NB: the compound had a sizeable middle space where the boys had now converted to a pitch and boys from other compounds occasionally come to play football), I just washed my clothes and as I was spreading it out front, some guys stormed into the compound angrily shouting "where him dey!", "where him dey, make e come out!!". Looking down from where I was spreading my clothes on the rails, I watched and saw the drama as it unfolded.

Chidera, one of the guys living in the noisy boys' room, came out of their room looking a little frightened as he tried to calm the aggressive-looking boys. One of the angry boys who seemed to be the leader of this invasion, grabbed Chidera by his collar and as he was still trying to explain, he started throwing punches on his face. But, I noticed that  Chidera didn't seem to fight back.

By now, I had stopped spreading my clothes totally and was watching premium content that these guys were putting up on a Saturday morning; things I love to see. On this Saturday Drama, peace is never an option. At this point, other neighbors were already outside as the noise from the squabble had attracted them to see what was going on. Everyone was as curious as I was as to why this particular guy and his friends had brought violence to our compound on a Saturday morning.

I've once said that those boys are a noisy bunch and they like to talk too much. Somehow, I knew that one day, one of them would get into trouble. Meanwhile, other dudes around had already started to separate the fights. Chidera on the one hand, was apologizing; I've never seen him that remorseful.

Esther and her roommate Eucharia, were outside as well. While Esther watched quietly what was happening, Eucharia her roommate was cheering the fight and yelling, "Yes, yes, na wetin fit am". As for me, I was only an observer from where I stood. Next thing, the aggressive puncher guy looked in Esther's direction and shouted "Babe, come here! This is the guy that tried to touch you abi? Abi?".

At this point, everything started becoming clearer. The drama was getting so interesting that I just thanked God I hadn't missed a scene. and as the gist lover, I wanted to know what transpired before the drama ends because the fight had been separated. Esther and the puncher dude, on the other hand, were on the side talking while his friends were standing around with intimidating faces. Other neighbors/onlookers were outside as well, talking in low tunes and laughing. I then searched for Eucharia and when I saw her, she was standing next to Mimi and Bego who were also co-tenants, gisting. They weren't audible enough so I couldn't hear them but I knew that was the spot I needed to be to get the full and real gist.

I stylishly walked to them and paid a little attention to what they were saying before throwing in my urgent question. "Abeg wetin happen, why was that guy beating Chidera?", I asked. With a smirk, she clapped her hands gesturing that the last time Esther went to charge her phone in the boys' room, when Chidera was alone in the room, he tried to make inappropriate advances at her and tried to touch her inappropriately as well and that made Esther report the incident to her boyfriend yesterday. That was the reason why the boys angrily stormed our compound to teach Chidera the lesson of his life.

"Wahala wey tie wrapper!" I was surprised because Chidera didn't look like someone who would make such inappropriate advances at a lady. As slender as he was, he looked harmless, so he was a pervert too? Wonders shall never end.

By now, the fight had completely died down and some of the onlookers had gone inside their respective rooms. I resorted to going into my room because the drama had ended. I glanced in search of Esther but I didn't see her nor her puncher boyfriend and his friends. I supposed they all left the compound together.

After hearing the full gist and Saturday Drama fully witness. I carried my empty bucket inside the cool and calm solitude of my room to wonder about the drama I just witnessed.
